Overview
MoV focuses on improving benefits and reducing expenditure to speed up delivery without impacting essential project scope or service quality. It is not simply about minimising costs. MoV is all about maximising value in line with programme or project objectives. It captures key stakeholder requirements for what products should do rather than what they are.
It is essential to effective policy making, programmes, projects, service reviews or product redesigns.
Course Objectives
The Foundation Course will enable delegates to:
- Demonstrate a knowledge of MoV principles, approach and environment.
- Explain the processes and techniques of value engineering and value analysis.
- Organise and contribute constructively to a Management of Value Study.
- Assist an MoV Professional to analyse a company, programme or project to identify and weight Value Drivers, and assess organisational value.
- Provide careful and detailed preparation for the Foundation Exam.
Who Should Attend
This course is suitable for individuals charged with maximizing the value of resources invested to get the best financial and non-financial benefits from portfolios, programmes and projects.
Prerequisites
There are no prerequisites for the course.
Course Content
The following topics will be covered:
- Introduction: what is MoV and why it is needed
- MoV and its place in organisational Best Practice
- Principles underpinning MoV
- Processes and Techniques to be applied when using MoV
- Approach to implementing MoV
- Environmental factors influencing and impacting MoV
- Application of MoV studies in a portfolio, programme and project environment
- Application of MoV studies in a Business as Usual environment
- Embedding a value culture in the organisation
- Preparation for the Foundation Examination
Delegates will work through a range of exercises and case studies in order to broaden & deepen their understanding of Management of Value and to prepare for the exam. There will be homework each evening.
Foundation Exam
The MoV Foundation Exam is a 40 minute closed book exam. There are 50 multiple choice questions. The candidate must correctly answer 50% or more of the questions to pass the exam.
We conduct this exam on behalf of APMG. APMG's terms and conditions are outlined here.

- Our Pre-Course Reading Guide. We do recommend that participants complete 10 - 12 hours of pre-course reading, but this is not mandatory.
- The MoV Manual
- Foundation Delegate Workbook including activities, discussions, quizzes and sample exams
- The MoV Desk Reference Chart
- The APMG MoV Foundation Exam
- Lunch, and morning and afternoon refreshments
The pre-course pack consisting of the Pre-Course Reading Guide and the MoV Manual will be sent to all participants who complete registration at least 10 days before scheduled course start.
