Overview

This short course provides an introduction to MSP to programme management professionals.

Course Objectives

At the end of this short course delegates will be able to:

  • Understand the value of programmes as a bridge between organisational strategy and implementation projects.
  • Describe the key features of MSP, and the value each provides
  • Identify the phases of a programme run under MSP and the governance considerations during each phase
  • Assess how best to use MSP
  • Understand the key aspects in implementing MSP

Who Should Attend

  • Executives and Senior Managers wishing to evaluate MSP as the basis for an organisational approach to strategic, transformational change.
  • The course is also suitable for programme sponsors or Senior Responsible Owners, Programme Managers, Business Change Managers, experienced project managers, programme office managers and senior managers from any discipline with involvement in introducing major change initiatives.

Course Content

The morning session provides an overview of MSP:

  • Introduce MSP and its origins, describe its domain of applicability, and outline the value it brings to organisations.
  • Address the principles of programme management, and provide an overview of the integrated elements of MSP and associated terminology.
  • Describe the levels of integration between a programme and its projects.
  • Consider the importance of thoughtful embedding and customisation of the method for effective adoption, and traps to be aware of.

The afternoon session provides a deeper insight into the elements of MSP:

  • Discuss the key aspects of each of MSP’s governance themes or knowledge areas.
  • Describe how a programme is scoped, defined, governed, rolled out and closed using MSP’s transformational flow processes.
  • Consider the key roles in MSP and their responsibilities across the transformational flow.
